What they do
DMC Global, of Broomfield, Colorado, owns three manufacturing businesses: Arcadia Products (60% owned), which makes aluminum windows, doors and wall systems for commercial and high-end residential buildings; DynaEnergetics, which makes perforating systems used to complete oil and gas wells; and NobelClad, which makes explosion-welded clad metal plates for industrial and defense projects.

Why we picked it
- 01+14%
A better quarter on higher sales. Sales in the quarter to 30 September rose 14% to $172.8M. Arcadia's sales rose 25% to $76.9M and NobelClad's 38% to $28.8M, while DynaEnergetics slipped 3% to $67.1M. The nine months were flat at $465.4M against $466.3M a year earlier. See the numbers
- 02$14.5M
Margins up, with help from tariff refunds. Gross margin was 26.9% against 21.7% a year earlier, and operating income was $14.5M against $0.6M. Both include $5.4M of refunds of tariffs DynaEnergetics had paid; without them gross margin was 23.7% and operating income $9.1M. Net income attributable to DMC was $9.7M against a loss of $3.1M. See the numbers
- 03$13.7M
Less debt. DMC ended September with $38.0M of cash and $51.7M of debt, so net debt was $13.7M, which the company called its lowest since it bought 60% of Arcadia in December 2021. Operating cash flow was $17.5M in the quarter. See the numbers
- 04$72.4M
A bigger order book at NobelClad. Its backlog rose to $72.4M from $63.5M at the end of June, including $16M of orders tied to U.S. Navy vessel construction.
The numbers behind it
Each bar is a quarter as DMC Global filed it; hover one for its filing, or select it to open the filing.
The risk
The catch: the owner of the other 40% of Arcadia can make DMC buy its stake, an option that became exercisable on 6 September, at a floor value of $187.1M, about 1.7 times DMC's $110M market value at the 27 October close. DMC may pay all in cash, or 20% in cash and 80% in a new preferred stock with a 3% dividend, convertible into common shares; it had not been exercised when the 10-Q was filed. The quarter also carried $5.4M of tariff refunds, the company guided fourth-quarter sales to $154M to $164M and adjusted EBITDA attributable to DMC to $10M to $13M, both below the September quarter, nin
The full analysis
DMC Global ($BOOM): sales up 14%, operating income up from $0.6M to $14.5M, net debt down to $13.7M
Our view: bullish, because DMC Global's September quarter showed the cost work of the last two years in its margins, on top of higher sales at two of its three businesses, while net debt fell to $13.7M; the shares were worth about $110M at the 27 October close.
The thesis
DMC Global, of Broomfield, Colorado, owns three manufacturing businesses (10-Q, Oct 2026): Arcadia Products (60% owned), which makes aluminum windows, doors and wall systems for commercial and high-end residential buildings; DynaEnergetics, which makes perforating systems used to complete oil and gas wells; and NobelClad, which makes explosion-welded clad metal plates for industrial and defense projects. Our case is that the improvement comes mostly from the company's own cost and commercial work in weak end markets, and that net debt is now small next to the business.
The evidence
A better quarter on higher sales. Sales in the quarter to 30 September rose 14% to $172.8M, from $151.5M a year earlier (results release, Oct 2026). Arcadia's sales rose 25% to $76.9M and NobelClad's 38% to $28.8M, while DynaEnergetics slipped 3% to $67.1M (release). The nine months were flat at $465.4M against $466.3M (release).
Margins up, with help from tariff refunds. Gross margin was 26.9% against 21.7% a year earlier, and operating income was $14.5M against $0.6M (release). Both include $5.4M of refunds of tariffs DynaEnergetics had paid, booked as a reduction of cost of products sold (10-Q, Oct 2026); without them gross margin was 23.7% and operating income $9.1M. Net income attributable to DMC was $9.7M against a loss of $3.1M (release). The company put the improvement down to cost optimization and commercial initiatives over the past two years (release).
Less debt. DMC ended September with $38.0M of cash and $51.7M of debt, so net debt was $13.7M, which the company called its lowest since it bought 60% of Arcadia in December 2021 (release). Operating cash flow was $17.5M in the quarter (release).
A bigger order book at NobelClad. Its backlog rose to $72.4M from $63.5M at the end of June, including $16M of orders tied to U.S. Navy vessel construction, and the company expects shipments to stay above historic levels in the fourth quarter (release and 10-Q).
What the market is missing
At the 27 October close of $5.35, DMC is worth about $110M on 20.5M shares (10-Q cover), against $172.8M of sales in the September quarter alone. We read the price as the market looking at the Arcadia stake and the weak end markets, and not yet at a quarter in which operating income, even without the refunds, was $9.1M against $0.6M a year earlier.
The risks
The Arcadia stake is the largest. The owner of the other 40% of Arcadia can make DMC buy it, an option that became exercisable on 6 September 2026, at a price set by a multiple of Arcadia's adjusted EBITDA or, if higher, a floor of $187.1M for the 40%, about 1.7 times DMC's market value (10-Q). DMC may pay all in cash, or 20% in cash and 80% in a new preferred stock with a 3% dividend that converts one for one into common shares, priced at the 60-day average before the notice, with voting and conversion first capped at 19.9% of the common shares (10-Q). It had not been exercised when the 10-Q was filed. The company guided fourth-quarter sales to $154M to $164M and adjusted EBITDA attributable to DMC to $10M to $13M, both below the September quarter, citing seasonal moderation at Arcadia, a planned shutdown of its California finishing plant, fewer large projects and still rising interest rates (release). Nine-month operating cash flow was $7.2M against $38.3M a year earlier, as working capital took cash (release). Over the last four quarters DMC still lost $7.0M (10-K and 10-Qs). Directors and officers owned about 7.1% in March, restricted stock units included (proxy, Mar 2026), and none bought in the open market in the last year.
What would change our mind
Notice that the Arcadia put has been exercised on terms that put much of the price in cash or in a large number of new shares; fourth-quarter results below the guided range; gross margin without tariff refunds falling back toward the 17% to 19% of the December 2025 and March 2026 quarters; or net debt rising again as working capital takes cash.
